The objectives of this slide presentation were to:investigate several innovative ideas to minimize reverse osmosis (RO)-concentrate volume; and, investigate innovative beneficial reuse alternatives of RO-concentrate. Concentrate Minimization Strategies included: optimize RO Operational Condition; and, Optimize Inter-stage Chemical treatment. All tests were conducted in bench-scale with RO-concentratecollected from Rio-rancho pilot site. Conclusions indicated that:BMED is feasible to produce acids and bases, and theconcentration of acid and base solution cab be high enough;Electrolytic Chlorine generation is feasible to producehypochlorite and the concentration of chlorine solution can be8000 mg/L;struvite recovery is technically feasible, but economically mightnot be viable; this process can be integrated with otherbeneficial reuse strategies as a phosphate removal process;easy to implement;economically beneficial; and, some impurities accumulate in products, but they are sitespecific, and can be eliminated using pretreatment. Includes figures.
