Coagulation, oxidation and disinfection are common treatments in drinking waterproduction. The ferrate ion (FeO42-) combines oxidation and coagulation. In this paperthe removal of turbidity, total organic carbon (TOC), E. coli and color by ferrate dosing to six Dutch watertypes is described. Also the improvement of UV-transmission was investigated. Jartests showed poor coagulation under the chosen conditions, but a reasonable amountof UV absorbing and color components could be removed. Furthermore a 3-loginactivation of E. Coli could be achieved. Due to its oxidizing properties, applicationof ferrate results in AOC formation. Includes 8 references, tables, figures.
