This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Loudoun County (Virginia) Sanitation Authority's (LCSA's) water system, and the history of its water quality (WQ). Specks occurrence and historical specks analysis are presented, along with a water quality evaluation that revealed that the historically elevated Mn and Fe analytical results from LCSA did not correlate with WTP results. Customer complaints prompted a field investigation of the specks occurrence, that resulted in the following conclusions: degraded expansion tank material (butylrubber) appear same as black specks in tub;degraded PRV diaphragm material(reinforced EPDM) appear same as blackspeck on whole house cartridge filter; WQ and hydraulic conditions may havecontributed to rapid degradation of theseelastomer materials with possible blendingWQ conditions; and, theimportance of one "GO TO PERSON"with WQ expertise. Final lab analysis of Mr. X'sspecks and materials is presented, along with material testing laboratoryresults, and recommended steps to resolvethis type of WQ problemquickly. Includes tables, figures.
