As part of the Water Security initiative, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), in partnershipwith the City of Cincinnati and the Greater Cincinnati Water Works, deployed an initial pilotcontamination warning system. Consequence management represents the response mechanism of thecontamination warning system, and involves the actions taken to plan for and respond to potentialdrinking water contamination incidents to mitigate potential human health and economic impacts.Developing an effective consequence management plan (CMP) involves self-assessment of a utility'sexisting response operations, development of a CMP decision-making framework and identification andengagement of key response partners and stakeholders.
