This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the corrosion history in Tucson, Arizona. Future water quality changes and testing procedures and results are presented. Research objectives included: determine if the current pH target at the Hayden Udall Water Treatment Plant(HUWTP) can be refined;determine the relationship between Calcium CarbonatePrecipitation Potential (CCPP)and the release of iron through bench-scaletesting;determines the water quality targets necessary inthe distribution system;determine change in water quality within thedistribution system; and, determine the water quality targets necessary atthe HUWTP. Summary of results includes:from a review of the water quality within thedistribution system, a drop of up to 3 mg/L wasobserved in the CCPP of the Clearwater blend;based on the results of the corrosion benchscaletesting statistically significant releases ofiron were observed with CCPPs of 5 mg/L orless;it was recommended that a CCPP of at least 8mg/L was needed at the HUWTP to protect the mostsensitive areas of the distribution system; and,a CCPP of 8 mg/L relates to a pH target ofapproximately 8.1 to 8.2 which is the current pHtarget. Includes table, figures.
