This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Pinellas County Water System. Reasons for converting tochloramines are listed and include:development of Alternative Water Supplies such asblended ground, surface and desalinated seawater; regulated disinfection byproduct (DBP) control;compatibility with wholesale regional supply; and, avoid high capital cost of precursor removal. Observed challenges to chloramine conversion include:Nitrification;chloramine residualdissipation;HPC increased byorders of magnitude;increased flushing;decrease in Legionella and increase in Mycobacteriapopulation densities; and, taste and odor complaints. Capital costs and operation and maintenance costs are presented. Includes figures.
