The objectives of this work were to:provide a screening tool for floc characterization after polymer addition;engineer flocs for filtration using polymers to provide a more robust treatmentduring deterioration in raw water quality; and, characterize raw and treated water to determine the impact it has ondownstream floc and filtration. Water samples were collected from Albert Water Treatment Works in Yorkshire, United Kingdom. The WTWs consists of coagulation, flocculation, dissolved air flotation (DAF), rapidgravity filtration followed by manganese removal in pressure filters beforedisinfection using chlorine. Water was sampled from three points: raw water;after coagulation using ferric sulphate and after DAF; and, after rapid gravity sandfiltration. The polymer used in this study was FLOPAM AH 912 SEP (SNF Ltd), aslightly anionic polymer with a charge of 0.6 meq/g. Includes 2 references, figures.
