This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Long Beach Water Department's (LBWD's) Seawater Desalination Program. Concerns with seawater quality are presented, along with bench-scale disinfection byproduct (DBP) testing and corrosion testing, LBWD pipe materials, corrosion indices, marble test, pipe section test, and water conditioning. Corrosion testing results include the following: for Indices, theaggressiveness index, RSI, and CCPP correlated wellwith LSI, andindicated that up to 50% DS blend should be acceptable; forbench-scale tests, marble tests correlated well with LSI, andpipe section tests provides better indication of behaviorof water with specific pipes; and, forpipe material, seal-coating provides better protection against corrosionthan no seal coat.
