This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Lead and Copper Rule, the St. Paul Water Resource Services, stannous chloride, and microbially influenced corrosion. Study objectives included: Sn may reduce Pb release by reducingthe rate of microbially-influencedcorrosion; and, toxicity to biofilm bacteria. Thehypothesis was that Sn inhibits biofilm growth. The effect of stannous chloride on leadcorrosion and on thedevelopment of biofilm are both presented. Presentation conclusions indicate the following:stannous chloride does not appear toeffect lead surface potential;it does not appear to affect lead surfacemineralogy;it reduces the development of biofilm atdoses as low as 0.125 mg/L Sn2+; and,it causes reduction of developed biofilmat approximately 1 mg/L as Sn2+.
