This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of cuprosolvency, or copper in drinking water supplies. Presentation objectives include the following: study the spontaneous synthesis of pitting corrosion byproducts;study the affect of aging on particles; and,track morphology changes that affect mineral identification. Presentation conclusions indicate the following: most minerals are amorphous (poorly crystalline) uponformation, aging plays a critical role in particledevelopment;water chemistry significantly affects copper synthesis,high pH favors the formation of tenorite, while low pHyields malachite and connellite; the role of chloride is unclear, however, high sulfate ratiostend to expedite formation; and,morphology changes occur due to the concentration ofchloride and sulfate present in a solution.
