This paper summarizes the major drinking water-related membrane research activities beingconducted at the NSERC Chair in Water Treatment at the University of Waterloo. These activitiesinclude mechanistic investigations into the removal of pharmaceuticals and endocrine disruptingcompounds by nanofiltration, the novel use of biofiltration as a membrane pretreatment to reducefouling and a comparison of ceramic and polymeric membranes. In addition, research being funded atvarious Canadian universities within the framework of a Canadian Water Network project is brieflysummarized. Includes 3 references.
