The overarching objectives for the development of the East Fork Watershed Test Bed inSouthwestern Ohio include: providing research infrastructure for integrating risk assessmentand management research on the scale of large multi-use watershed (i.e., 1295 km2); focusing on aprocess-level understanding of ecotoxicology and fate/transport for emerging contaminants andstressful mixtures for linking stressor dynamics to instream ecology; and, developing andmaintaining long-term continuity in base analytics for ecosystem structure and function useful formeta-analyses and continual testing of new indicators of stress-response, monitoringtechnologies, and modeling functions. The key components proposed as requisites for a watershedtest bed are described in this paper, along with an example of how they have been combined to address apertinent question related to water quality management. Includes 11 references, figures.
