This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of microconstituents. This project addresses microconstituent concernsrelated to environmental impact. The presentation examines removal of microconstituents throughvarious wastewater membraneprocesses in advanced water treatment (AWT) facilities, such as membrane bioreactors, microfiltration/ultrafiltration (MF/UF), and reverse osmosis (RO). Topics presented include: Aquatic Organism Impact -Toxicity and Hormonal Response; and, recharge modeling. Presentation summary includes the following:almost all microconstituents were removed byRO system in AWT facilities;the observed toxicity to aquatic organisms waslikely caused by chloramines, which were usedfor maintaining RO membranes, however, toxicity was significantly removed afterquenching (dechlorination);RO effluent posed no hormonal threat to tissuecultures and live fish; and, hydrodynamic models and water qualitymodels can help us evaluate the fate andtransport of trace organics and groundwaterrecharge. Includes figures.
