This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of activated carbon application used in drinking water treatment. Information on selection of the proper carbon for the required application is presented, along with the overall research objective ofproposing a new tool to measure thenumber of high energy sites that has the following requirements:simple and fast;inexpensive; and, reproducible. Trace capacity number and experimental design are presented. Presentation summary includes the following: conventional carbon activity index(Iodine, Molasses, Tanning, Butane)defines the total number of adsorption sites, isonly good for target compounds in mg/L range, and isn'tgood for T&O, other micropollutants; and, trace capacity number (TCN/TCNG)defines the number of high energy sites,is relevant to micropollutant removal, andcombines with the iodine number to define theentire range of adsorption pores. Includes figures.
