This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of emerging contaminants such as Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPS), Pesticides andEndocrine Disruptors (EDCs). Overall study objectives were to: determine spatial and temporal variations of PPCPs,EDCs and pesticides in the Montreal area;identify the main sources of contamination; and, verify contaminants removal by ozonation in lab. Specific objectives were to: assess oxidation kinetics in natural waters; and, determine if benchscaleresults would predict fullscaleremoval data from previous sampling campaigns. Methodology presented includes: target compounds; analysis by onlineSPE and LCMS/MS; two types of filtered water; compounds spiking;ozone dosages;room temperature;compound analysis;addition of tert butanol(50 mM); and, ozone decay. Presentation conclusions indicate the following: ozone is highly effective for removing PPCPs and EDCs(contaminant structure, CT value);pesticides - advanced oxidation process (AOP);caffeine removal at benchscalewas similar to removalobserved in fullscaleWTP;contribution of all processes at fullscale;cytostatic agent - environmental issue; and, ozonation byproductsshould be identified - potentialimpact and (eco)toxicological effects. Includes table, figures.
