The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Office of Groundwater and Drinking Water releasedMethod 524.3 (1), "Measurement of Purgeable Organic Compounds inWater by Capillary Column Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry,Revision 1.0," in the Federal Register (2), on August 3, 2009. The newmethod is used for determination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs)in finished drinking water, and includes several significant changes andimprovements over its predecessor, USEPA Method 524.2 (3).This paper presents optimized instrument operating parameters, including a 6-minute purge time, and a complete set of method validationdata. Quality control statistics shown here include calibration acceptancedata, Minimum Reporting Levels (MRLs), Detection Limits (DLs) andLowest Concentration Minimum Reporting Levels (LCMRLs); twoprecision and accuracy studies from the Initial Demonstration ofCapability (IDC); and, results from Laboratory Reagent Blanks (LRBs)and Continuing Calibration Check (CCC) samples. Includes 7 references, tables, figures.
