This powerpoint presentation focuses on the key steps that are required for a successfulLIMS replacement project, including: needs assessment; Request forProposal creation; product demos; selection; purchase anddeployment; and, data migration from the historical LIMS. Theuseful life of a LIMS will depend on how well the LIMS matches therequirements of the laboratory, some LIMS survive less than a yearwhile LIMS that are a "good fit" can manage the laboratory samplesfor 10 or more years. There are also cases in which the LIMS teamwill try to adapt the laboratory operations to the LIMS or customize theLIMS to meet the data management challenges even though thecustomized system may fall short of the complete data managementrequirements.
