This outline of bulleted points presents a study on the application of the dynamic extinction measuring method(DEM) for coagulation monitoring, and anevaluation of DEM for floc characterization. The basics of DEM are outlined, along with method evaluation, and a determination of floc properties and observation ofcoagulation kinetics. The presentation summary indicates that: the method is adequate, dynamic analysis of polydisperse particle/floc systems, due to high resolution of time, coagulation kinetics can beinvestigated;no influence on floc properties due to shear forces by measuringequipment in contrast to classic particle counting;for low solid load/high transmittance of suspensions, optimizationof hardware required;possible fields of application - dynamic optimization of flocproperties regardingcoagulation/sedimentation, coagulation/membrane filtration(membrane blocking), coagulation/filtration, andtreatment of lime milk and flushing water.
