The dependence of particle size on granular activated carbon (GAC) capacity is assessedwhen dissolved organic matter (DOM) is present. It is found that even though theproportional diffusivity rapid small-scale column test results in equal surface loading ofDOM, the fouling is not equal. The reduction in capacity due to competition from DOMis dependent on particle size, and may be proportional to particle size. Larger particleswere found to foul more. Pore blockage is used to explain this phenomena. Includes 10 references, table, figures.
