This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of ultraviolet (UV)/H2O2 oxidation as an effective barrier for organic micro pollutants. A new lamp is presented that is under development to optimally use degradation mechanisms, with minimal disinfection byproduct (DBP) formation. The positive aspects of both mercuryUV-lamps are needed for the following: optimal use of photolysis and oxidation mechanisms; higher electrical power (compared to LP); high energy efficiency; and, are mercury free. A new concept UV/H2O2 is presented, along with theapproach MP-UV/H2O2 vs. LP-UV/H2O2 vs. new lamp (NL or DBD) that includes calculation of produced photons and proof of principle: collimated beam; formation of hydroxyl radicals; degradation of organic micro pollutants; small pilot research; degradation of selected organic micro pollutants; byproduct formation; and, energy efficiency. Pilot research is presented at Greater Cincinnati Water Works, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Dunea Bergambacht on genotoxicity and the design of a new reactor. Includes table, figures.
