Ceramic membrane performance was evaluated on two natural source waters in Texas (BrazosRiver and Trinity River) with significantly variable raw water quality. The source waters arehigh color, high organic and high turbidity water and can be classified as eutrophic in nature.Ceramic membrane treatability was also evaluated for spent filter backwash stream and lagoonrecycle stream combined with spent filter backwash and sludge blowdown. The performance wasevaluated for removal of particulates, organics and disinfection byproducts (DBPs) precursors. The Brazos River bench-scale experiments were performed in cross-flow filtration mode, whilethe other source waters were tested at pilot scale in dead-end filtration mode. A schematic of theapparatus used in the cross flow filtration experiments, and the experimentalset-up for dead-end filtration are provided. Includes figures.
