In this research, TTHM and HAA5 levels at one central Missouri utility wereextensively monitored to gain a better understanding of what actually occurs withinthe treatment process and through the distribution system. At this facility, MissouriRiver water is generally treated in an aeration-coagulation-flocculation-settling-carboncontact-settling-permanganate-polymer-settling-disinfection-filtrationsequence before storage and distribution. Over a period of more than two years, watersamples were taken on a weekly basis from locations within each major unit operationand at a few sites within the distribution system. Among other changes made duringthe course of this study, the utility elected to begin chloramination, and the effects ofthis change in disinfectant were then measured against other operational changesmade at the facility. Includes 8 references, tables, figures.
