A new method was developed for the simultaneous determination of 5-iodo-2'-deoxyuridine (IDU), 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (BrdU), 5-iodouracil (IU) and 5-bromouracil (BU) in potable water and surface water. The target analytes were preconcentratedusing solid phase extraction, and then were well separated by HPLC on areversed-phase C18 column with 10 mM phosphate-acetonitrile-methanol as themobile phase. Ultraviolet absorption detection and inductively coupled plasma massspectrometry (ICP-MS) detection were compared in terms of simplicity, sensitivityand selectivity. Solid phase extraction was used to pre-treat water samples. Potablewater and surface water were analyzed using this developed method, and the resultswere lower than detection limits. Includes 11 references, table, figures.
