This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the formation of the disinfection byproducts (DBP) Total Trihalomethanes (TTHMs) and Haloacetic Acids (HAA5s), and regulatory drivers including the Stage 2 DBPR. The City of Tempe's DBP controlapproaches are presented and include: historical LRAA analysis; monitoring of Stage 2 sites and WTP; and, treatment/operation improvements and modifications. Efforts have helped the City ofTempe understand whether the currentoperations can comply with the Stage 2D/DBP Rule and identify the factors (water quality and operationalchanges) that influence DBP formation and evaluate potential solutions. Recommendations included coagulation with optimized coagulantand PAC dose, and blending with GW. Includes figures.
