This slide presentation outlines the interdependencies of public health and drinking water utilities in contamination warning systems. It begins by illustrating how various organizations work together for the good of public health, including: health care providers;epidemiology and surveillance;toxicology and risk assessment;environmental health;laboratory; and,consequence management. Several historic case studies are outlined and include: London Cholera Outbreak of 1849; Walkerton, Ontario E. coli outbreak of 2000; The Battlefords, Saskatchewan Cryptosporidium outbreak of 2001. Current Partnership Pilots are outlined and include: Cincinnatiwhere 11 health departments in Greater Cincinnati Water Works' (GCWW's) servicearea were involved intesting the following collaborative concepts:Public Health Surveillance;Toxicology Expertise;Laboratory Support;Site Characterization; and,Consequence Management. A second case study of the Pittsburgh ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ RODS Water Module is outlined. Future plans include:ESSENCE Water Module; Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab;Pilot Utilities;additional CWS Pilots;upport existing initiatives;New York City and Seattle; and,national guidance.
