Cocamide DEA is a diethanolamide made by reacting diethanolamine with coconut oil fatty acids.

In June 2012, the State of California added cocamide diethanolamine, also known as coconut oil acid diethanolamine condensate, to the list of chemicals known to the state to cause cancer ("Proposition 65 List") (OEHHA 2013).
