Need: ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
Result: The objective of this program was to modify the Drop Weight Tear Test (DWTT) Standard (ASTM 436 or API 5L SR6) to make it appropriate for inclusion in the ISO Standards. This program was initiated at the request of ASTM who had been requested by ISO to prepare a DWTT standard suitable for use in the ISO Standards.
Benefit: The end result is that the DWTT standard developed in this program was rejected by the ISO Committee. (Since the draft standard was rejected it indicates that ISO does not have a copyright to the ISO DWTT Standard.)
