This standard describes a profile of the Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) forIPCablecom PSTN Gateways, which we will refer to as the IPCablecom Trunking GatewayControl Protocol (TGCP). TGCP is a control protocol for use in a centralized call controlarchitecture, and assumes relatively simple endpoint devices. TGCP is designed to meet theprotocol requirements for the Media Gateway Controller (MGC) to Media Gateway interfacedefined in the IPCablecom architecture. The control protocol is one layer of the overallIPCablecom suite of Standards and relies upon companion protocol standards to providecomplete end-to-end IPCablecom functionality. The base document for the TGCP standard isIPCablecom DSS Network Call Signalling, which is also a profile of MGCP. The scope ofTGCP is currently only Voice-over-IP PSTN Gateways for trunking applications in anIPCablecom environment and the TGCP profile has therefore simplified and in some casesmodified from the base DSS Network Call Signalling document accordingly.
