ULTRAVIOLET CURING IS ONE OF THE NEW TECHNOLOGIES TO EMERGE FOR ADHESIVES. PROPER SELECTION OF MATERIALS ENABLES FORMULATION OF UV-CURED PRESSURE-SENSITIVE ADHESIVES WITH PROPERTIES COMPARABLE TO MANY SOLVENT AND WATER-BASED PSAS. IN ADDITION TO GOOD ADHESIVE CHARACTERISTICS, UV-PSAS OFFER SEVERAL ADVANTAGES, INCLUDING RAPID CURE, REDUCED FLOOR SPACE, AND LOW OR NO VOLATILES. ADHESIVE USERS ARE EVALUATING UV-PSAS WITH GREAT SUCCESS. SEVERAL APPLICATORS HAVE CHOSEN UV-PSAS OVER OTHER SYSTEMS FOR PLASTIC AND FOAM APPLICATIONS. THE FACT THAT UV-PSAS ARE ENVIRONMENTALLY ACCEPTABLE, FAST CURING, AND UV EQUIPMENT IS USUALLY READILY RETROFITTED INTO EXISTING LINES CONTRIBUTED TO THEIR DECISION. THE CASE HISTORIES OF SEVERAL UV-PSAS APPLICATORS ARE DISCUSSED.
