A SCANDINAVIAN DECORATIVE METAL PANEL PRODUCER HAS BEEN EXPERIMENTING WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF COPPER- FACED PANELS CONTAINING POLYURETHANE, MINERAL WOOL, OR HEXCEL CORES. THIS COMPANY HAS HAD ADHESION LOSS UNDER HIGH-HUMIDITY TESTING USING A POLYURETHANE TWO-COMPONENT ADHESIVE. THIS PAPER PRESENTS THE RESEARCH DONE TO OVERCOME THIS PROBLEM USING TWO INTERRELATED APPROACHES: (1) DEVELOPMENT OF AN IMPROVED ADHESIVE, AND (2) USE OF SURFACE TREATMENTS ON COPPER. TESTING FOR ADHESION OF COPPER TO MINERAL WOOL, POLYURETHANE FOAM, AND FIBERGLASS BOARD WAS CARRIED OUT BY LAP-SHEAR, T-PEEL, AND MODIFIED WEDGE TESTS.
