The use of laser welding in the kilowatt range in the automotive industry began in the early 1980's and more recently has grown at a rapid rate. Automobile transmissions components account for a good deal of the applications, but tailored blanks, torque converters, mufflers, catalytic converters and other applications are also sharing in this highly productive process.
