IN CERTAIN APPLICATIONS, COMPOSITE TOOLS ARE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED OVER OTHER CONVENTIONAL TOOLING MATERIALS. COMPOSITE TOOL SURFACES ARE LESS DURABLE AND WHEN DAMAGED MUST BE REPAIRED. IN THE PAST, REPAIRS OTHER THAN FILL AND FAIR MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ATTEMPTED DUE TO UNFAMILIARITY OF TOOLING PERSONNEL WITH STANDARD PRODUCTION COMPOSITE REPAIR METHODS. THIS PAPER PRESENTS A CASE STUDY IN COMPOSITE TOOL SURFACE REPAIR UTILIZING STANDARD PRODUCTION REPAIR METHODS. FILL AND FAIR TECHNIQUES, SCARF REPAIR TECHNIQUES, AND A PROCESS FOR TOOL RESURFACING ARE PRESENTED. THESE METHODS ARE EXPECTED TO REDUCE LIFE CYCLE MAINTENANCE COSTS AND POTENTIALLY SAVE AND EXTEND THE LIFE OF COMPOSITE TOOLS.
