IN THIS STUDY, THE THERMAL CHARACTERISTICS OF FERROCEMENT, A PROSPECTIVE MATERIAL CANDIDATE FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF MACHINE TOOL STRUCTURES, WERE INVESTIGATED WITH THE HELP OF SIMPLE MODELS, AND THE SIGNIFICANT PARAMETERS AFFECTING ITS THERMAL BEHAVIOR WERE ESTABLISHED. IT WAS FOUND THAT A LOWER SAND-CEMENT RATIO IN THE MORTAR MIX AND AN INCREASED NUMBER OF LAYERS OF WIRE MESH AS REINFORCEMENT WOULD GIVE A HIGHER THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY AND DISSIPATE HEAT MORE RAPIDLY. HOWEVER, A MORE SIGNIFICANT EFFECT WAS OBSERVED BY CHANGING THE ORIENTATION OF THE WIRE MESH WITH RESPECT TO THE DIRECTION OF HEAT FLOW. WIRE MESH PLACED ALONG THE DIRECTION OF HEAT FLOW RESULTED IN HIGHER THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY THAN THE CASE WHEN THE LAYERS OF WIRE MESH WERE PLACED PERPENDICULAR TO THE DIRECTION OF HEAT FLOW. HENCE, THE THERMAL STRESSES AND DEFORMATION IN THE MACHINE TOOL BED, WHEN FERROCEMENT MATERIALS ARE U
