COST MODELS HAVE BEEN USED TO ESTIMATE THE COST OF A COMPLEX PROTOTYPE COMPOSITE COMPONENT FOR SEVERAL YEARS. DURING THAT TIME, THE ANALYSIS HAS TRACKED THE ESTIMATED COST AS THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS HAS EVOLVED. PROCESS COST MODELS ARE USEFUL WHEN TRADITIONAL COST ESTIMATING TECHNIQUES DO NOT HAVE A HISTORICAL BASIS TO RELY ON. A COST MODEL CAN BE DEVELOPED TO SIMULATE THE COST WHEN THERE IS A TECHNICAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS AS WELL AS INSIGHT INTO THE INVESTMENT COSTS REQUIRED. THIS PAPER TRACKS THE COST OF THE LIQUID COMPOSITE MOLDED COMPONENT THROUGH SEVERAL MANUFACTURING SCENARIOS TO DEMONSTRATE THE USEFUL FEEDBACK A MODEL CAN PROVIDE IN THE EARLY STAGES OF PROCESS DEVELOPMENT. THE MODEL IS ALSO USEFUL IN PROVIDING INSIGHT INTO THE SEGMENT OF THE PROCESS WHERE A UNIT DEVELOPMENTAL EFFORT WILL YIELD THE HIGHEST PROCESS IMPROVEMENT. EXAMPLES OF PROCESS IMPROVEME
