LARGE-SCALE INDUSTRIAL CLEANING OF PLASTIC PARTS PRIOR TO PAINTING CONSISTS OF THREE SEPARATE OPERATIONS; POWER WASHING, RINSING, AND DRYING. POWER WASHING EMPLOYS MECHANICAL AND CHEMICAL CLEANING FOR THE REMOVAL OF A HOST OF INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTAMINANTS WHICH IMPEDE QUALITY PAINT RESULTS. ONCE CLEANING HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED, REMOVAL OF THE CLEANER AND SUSPENDED CONTAMINANTS IS ACHIEVED BY RINSING WHICH MAY CONSIST OF SEVERAL STEPS. FINALLY, ONCE THE CONTAMINANTS HAVE BEEN DISPLACED BY PURE WATER, PARTS MUST BE DRIED TO ASSURE THAT A DRY PART IS RECEIVED AT THE PAINT BOOTH. THE DRYING OPERATION CONSISTS OF COMBINATIONS OF AIR BLOWOFF, DRAINING, AND OVEN DRYING. THE FOCUS OF THIS PAPER IS A DESCRIPTION OF THE RINSING PROCESS. PARTICULAR ATTENTION WILL BE PAID TO THE USE OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF RINSE AID CHEMICALS TO ASSIST IN THE RINSING OF PLASTIC PARTS.
