THE INCREASED IMPORTANCE PLACED ON MANUFACTURING HAS LED TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN INTERDISCIPLINARY MANUFACTURING MINOR PROGRAM FOR ENGINEERING AND BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION STUDENTS. THIS UNIQUE MINOR DRAWS UPON THE STRENGTHS AND EXPERTISE FROM EACH COLLEGE, PROVIDING THE OPPORTUNITY TO STUDY MANUFACTURING AND PRODUCTION SYSTEMS FROM THE PERSPECTIVES OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT AND ENGINEERING. THE MANUFACTURING MANAGEMENT MINOR IS ESPECIALLY POPULAR WITH COOPERATIVE EDUCATION STUDENTS. A SIGNIFICANT LABORATORY COMPONENT INCLUDES MANUFACTURING PROCESSES, COMPUTER-NUMERICAL-CONTROL, AND AUTOMATION. A SEMESTER-LONG DESIGN EXPERIENCE REQUIRES A GROUP OF FOUR STUDENTS TO DESIGN AND PRODUCE A SIMPLE PRODUCT AND ITS TOOLING AND TO INVESTIGATE A PRODUCTION SYSTEM FOR THE PRODUCT. CURRICULUM, LABORATORY FACILITIES AND EXPERIENCES, AND THE GROUP DESIGN EXPERIENCE ARE DESCRIBED.
