No one really disagrees with the position that industry and academic institutions need to work together in fashioning new forms and approaches to manufacturing education in the 21st century. There are, however, many cases of less than outstanding success in trying to do this as well as a far from unanimous agreement on how best to bring it about. Six large, diverse manufacturers and three state universities are working together cooperatively to much more clearly define industry education needs; jointly design new learning experiences?modules, certificate programs, credit and non-credit courses of various lengths and other activities; serve as full team members in teaching these courses.
