A mini computer integrated manufacturing laboratory (CIM on Wheels), set up in a 16' x 18' trailer with wide-open side and rear doors was constructed for two main purposes: (a) for teaching CIM at GMI (Kettering University as of January 1, 1998) and (b) outreach to high school students and other professionals who wish to be involved in CIM. Students go through every phase of a project from design through writing a report about the finished project. This whole process becomes the reinforcement for learning. What better way to learn a subject or a process, than to have to know it well enough to present or teach it personally?
