DEIONIZED WATER IS NEEDED IN SEVERAL KEY STEPS OF THE ELECTRODEPOSITION PROCESS. MOST WATER IN USE TODAY IS PRODUCED BY CONVENTIONAL REGENERABLE DEIONIZATION, A BATCH PROCESS THAT REQUIRES PERIODIC CHEMICAL REGENERATION. CONTINUOUS DEIONIZATION (CDI) IS A NEW DEIONIZATION PROCESS THAT CAN PRODUCE WATER FOR THESE APPLICATIONS WITHOUT THE NEED FOR REGENERATION. THE CDI TECHNOLOGY WILL BE DESCRIBED, COMPARING COSTS AND OPERATION WITH CONVENTIONAL TECHNIQUES. CASE HISTORIES OF CDI FOR ELECTROCOATING WILL BE DISCUSSED.
