Diamond has hardness and thermal conductivity which make it an excellent material for cutting tools. PCD diamond, synthesized using the high temperature, high pressure (HTHP) method is expensive to fabricate into tools. Diamond coatings can be synthesized onto tools using the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method, but the poor adhesion has limited its acceptance. QQC's breakthrough development in diamond synthesis uses multiplexed lasers, dissociating carbon from carbon dioxide and directly synthesizing it into metallurgically bonded diamond. The resulting coating has excellent adhesion, and the process works on a wide variety of substrates, including tungsten carbide and HSS tools.
