This paper reviews new techniques in spray booth design and automation to make spray booths smaller and reduce exhaust volumes. Booth exhaust air recirculation and solvent concentration are reviewed as a means of further reducing exhaust volumes and the size and cost of add-on control systems. The operating principles of carbon and zeolite rotary VOC concentrators are explained. Thermal and catalytic oxidizers are compared. Case histories demonstrating exhaust volume reduction techniques and add-on control systems will be presented.
