Conventional grinding fluids are a source of environmental pollution and a health hazard. The present investigation was undertaken to evaluate Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) with ester oil as an environmentally-conscious alternative to conventional soluble oil for cylindrical internal grinding. Experiments were conducted to compare the grinding performance using MQL with soluble oil and dry grinding. The results indicate that MQL is superior to soluble oil as a lubricant, providing a lower specific energy, smoother surface finish, and higher G-ratio. MQL's main drawback is the lack of sufficient bulk cooling of the workpiece, thereby leading to thermal expansion and possible difficulties with size control.
