IN ANY PRODUCTION GRINDING OPERATION, A PART MUST BE PRODUCED IN A SPECIFIED TIME. HOWEVER, THE DIVISION OF TIME BETWEEN ROUGH GRINDING, FINISH GRINDING AND SPARKOUT CAN DRASTICALLY AFFECT THE OUTPUT OF THE SYSTEM. THE PRODUCTION OF ONE PART IN SOME TIME IS CALLED A MACHINE CYCLE. VARIOUS CONFIGURATIONS OF MACHINE CYCLES WERE ESTABLISHED IN THE LABORATORY AND THE QUALITY OF THE WORKPIECE (SURFACE FINISH AND PEAK-TO-VALLEY GEOMETRY) AND THE EFFICIENCY OF THE GRINDING WHEEL (G-RATIO) WERE COMPARED. VARIOUS GRINDING WHEELS WITH CONVENTIONAL AND SEEDED GEL ABRASIVES WERE USED. THE IN-CYCLE ROUGH GRINDING METAL REMOVAL RATE IS SHOWN TO BE A PRIME FACTOR IN THE LEVEL WORKPIECE QUALITY AND WHEEL EFFICIENCY.
