SINGLE-GRIT MICROCUTTING TESTS WERE PERFORMED ON HARDENED SUJ2 STEEL, CEMENTED CARBIDE, AND SINTERED ALUMINA WITH THE USE OF CBN, DIAMOND, AND ALUMINA SINGLE GRAINS. THE TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT BY MEANS OF A SURFACE GRINDER, AND CUTTING FORCES WERE MEASURED BY THE USE OF FEATHER-TYPE SMALL DYNAMOMETER. IT IS EVIDENT THAT, IN SOME CASES, THE CBN GRAINS IS LOWER IN CUTTING FORCES THAN DIAMOND AND ALUMINA GRAINS. ALSO, THE EFFECTS OF WORK MATERIAL AND GRAIN SHAPE ON THE CUTTING FORCES WERE EVIDENT.
