ALUMINA (AL 995) WERE CREEP FEED GROUND IN DOWN GRINDING MODE WITH RESINOID DIAMOND WHEELS. FORCE, POWER, FINISH WERE MEASURED. DAMAGE IN TERMS OF CRACK SIZE WAS OBTAINED BASED ON INDENTATION FRACTURE MECHANICS MODEL BY ASSUMING CERAMICS GRINDING TO BE ANALOGOUS TO A SERIES OF CLOSELY SLIDING SINGLE POINT REGULAR PYRAMIDAL INDENTORS. THE GRINDING PROCESS IS FORMULATED AS A MULTIOBJECTIVE MIXED INTEGER NONLINEAR PROBLEM. A SET OF EIGHT NONDIMINATED SOLUTIONS WAS FOUND AFTER THE OFF-LINE OPTIMIZATION OF THE PROCESS. SOLUTIONS FOR MINIMUM DAMAGE ARE SPECIALLY HIGHLIGHTED. MODELS WERE ESTABLISHED BY THE REGRESSION ANALYSIS OF THE EXPERIMENTAL DATA BASED ON A FRACTIONAL FACTORIAL DESIGN.
