TO REDUCE THE WIDTH OF WEAR LAND AND TO INCREASE THE TOOL LIFE OF MILLING CUTTERS (COATED AND UNCOATED) CHIP BREAKER THREADS ARE GROUND ON HIGH-SPEED STEEL MILLING TOOLS. UP TO NOW, THE CHIP BREAKER THREAD WAS GROUND USING METALLIC BONDED GRINDING WHEELS, WHEREAS THE WHEEL COULD NOT BE PROILED ON THE ORIGINAL GRINDING MACHINE, BUT HAD TO BE TRUED AND DRESSED ON A SEPARATE PROFILING MACHINE. BECAUSE OF THE PERMANENT PROFILE WEAR, THE WHEEL HAD TO BE REMOVED FROM THE GRINDING MACHINE FREQUENTLY TO CORRECT ITS PROFILE. THIS PAPER INTRODUCES A SYSTEM WHICH PROVIDES DRESSING, CHECKING, AS WELL AS ADJUSTING WITHIN A SINGLE CNC-CONTROLLED GRINDING MACHINE. THE MOST SUITABLE GRINDING TOOLS FOR THIS APPLICATION ARE VITRIFIED BONDED CBN WHEELS WHICH CAN EASILY BE DRESSED TO EVERY PROFILE REQUIRED.
