HIGH-SPEED GRINDING IS OPENING UP NEW APPLICATIONS. INCREASED PERIPHERAL SPEED REDUCES GRINDING FORCES BUT INCREASES TEMPERATURE. CONVENTIONAL WHEELS ARE GENERALLY LIMITED TO 16,000 SFPM (80 M/S), BUT CBN WHEELS CAN WORK AT MUCH HIGHER SPEEDS DUE TO DIFFERENT WHEEL STRUCTURE AND STRENGTH CHARACTERISTICS. BOTH SINGLE-LAYER CBN WHEEL OR MULTI-LAYER CBN WHEELS ARE USED. PLATED WHEELS PERMIT THE HIGHEST PERIPHERAL SPEEDS, DUE TO THEIR METALLIC CORES, WITH SPEEDS OF 30,000 TO 40,000 SFPM (150-200 M/S), AND SOMETIMES EVEN 60,000 SFPM (300 M/S). SPECIAL MANUFACTURING TECHNIQUES HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED FOR PLATED SINGLE-LAYER WHEELS WITH HIGH GEOMETRIC ACCURACY; BUT IT IS MORE COST EFFECTIVE TO USE MULTI-LAYER WHEELS. THIS TECHNIQUE REQUIRES APPROPRIATE DRESSING SYSTEMS AND STRATEGIES, WITH OPTIMIZED CORE STABILITY. VITRIFIED BONDS HAVE BEEN FURTHER DEVELOPED FOR HIGH-SPEED GRINDING, E.G., FOR GRIN
