THE ADVANTAGES OF HIGH-EFFICIENCY DEEP GRINDING (HEDG) ARE LIMITED NOT ONLY TO EXTREMELY HIGH REMOVAL RATES. LOW GRINDING WHEEL WEAR, LOW SURFACE TEMPERATURE, AND HIGH COMPRESSIVE RESIDUAL SURFACE STRESSES ARE OTHER ADVANTAGES OF THIS MODERN TECHNOLOGY. WITH FEW EXCEPTIONS, IT IS POSSIBLE TO MACHINE MILD AND HARD MATERIALS, AS WELL AS THOSE WHICH ARE DIFFICULT TO CUT. INCONEL IS REGARDED AS A MATERIAL WHICH IS DIFFICULT TO GRIND. UNTIL NOW, IT HAS BEEN CUSTOMARY PRACTICE TO GRIND INCONEL USING MAINLY CONVENTIONAL GRINDING WHEELS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE CD PROCESS. PRESENTED ARE SOME OF THE RESULTS OF THE APPLICATION OF HEDG WITH CBN GRINDING WHEELS ON INCONEL AND OTHER MATERIALS.
