SUPERABRASIVE GRINDING WHEELS REQUIRE DIFFERENT DRESSING STRATEGIES COMPARED TO CONVENTIONAL WHEELS. A METHOD FOR THE DETECTION OF THE CONTACT BETWEEN DRESSER AND GRINDING WHEEL IS NECESSARY. THE SECOND SENSOR IS A PIEZOELECTRIC STACK. THE VOLTAGE OF THE PIEZO ELEMENT CHANGES UNDER EXTERNAL DRESSING FORCES. THE THIRD IS AN ACOUSTIC EMISSION SENSOR. THIS PAPER DESCRIBES PRINCIPLE AND DESIGN OF THE SENSORS, COMPARES THE SENSOR SIGNALS, AND EVALUATES THE APPLICABILITY OF THE THREE METHODS FOR INDUSTRIAL USE IN SUPERABRASIVE GRINDING.
