TODAY VITRIFIED CBN WHEELS ARE WIDELY USED IN PRODUCTION GRINDING BECAUSE OF THEIR HIGHER GRINDING EFFICIENCY, BETTER SURFACE FINISH, AND LONGER WHEEL LIFE THAN CONVENTIONAL AND OTHER TYPES OF CBN WHEELS. THESE ADVANTAGES ARE, HOWEVER, STRONGLY AFFECTED BY THE MODE OF WHEEL SURFACE CONDITIONING, TRUING, AND DRESSING. POOR WHEEL SURFACE CONDITIONING OFTEN CAUSES INCONSISTENT GRINDING PERFORMANCES OF WHEELS. THIS PAPER DESCRIBES THE EFFECTS OF VARIOUS WHEEL CONDITIONING FACTORS ONTO WHEEL PERFORMANCES, ESPECIALLY GRINDING POWER AND SURFACE FINISH. THE OPTIMUM WHEEL SURFACE FOR SIMULTANEOUS REALIZATION OF LOWER GRINDING POWER AND BETTER FINISH ALSO IS SUGGESTED.
